Meta Tag Generator & Length Checker
Count title and description characters, then generate escaped HTML tags for metadata, canonical URLs and Open Graph sharing.
Character counts and the title-width estimate are editing aids. This generates tags from your inputs; it does not check a live page or predict Google’s chosen snippet.
Start with the page you are publishing
Write a title that describes the page’s task and a description that accurately summarizes its content. The generator trims the edges of these two fields, counts Unicode code points and escapes text for HTML. An ampersand or quote in a title stays part of the title rather than turning into another HTML attribute.
When you provide a page URL, the output includes a canonical link. Choose that address deliberately: this tool does not know which version of your page should be canonical, whether the page exists or which URL redirects to another.
Review the head before adding tags
- Load the example to see a complete set of fields, then replace it with your page’s information.
- Generate the tags and inspect both the text and the preferred page URL.
- Use your CMS’s metadata settings or an appropriate head template. Check existing tags first so you do not add competing titles, descriptions or canonical links.
- Inspect the published page after saving the change.
Counts are not a snippet promise
The title width uses a 20px Arial approximation. The tool does not impose a fixed Google character limit, and a supplied description is not necessarily the snippet shown for every query. Open Graph output uses the basic website type; the optional image URL is written into a tag without fetching or validating that image.
For how Google creates snippets, see Google’s snippet guidance.
Your inputs are processed locally. See the Privacy Policy for website requests and the Terms of Use for the toolkit’s scope.
